Mark Andrew started across the field with the large stone solitary in it. He knew that the boggarts and the strange, gray ball-like creature would be after him if he did not hurry. He picked up his speed and ran as fast as he could toward the woods on the other side. He reached the cover of the woods and drew up short at the sight of Sam, the elven leader, sitting on his pony with the lead reins of his black stallion in his hand.

“King Adar!” Sam greeted him and smiled broadly. “Welcome home.”

“It is good to see you, my friend!”

Mark Andrew took the reins of the horse and mounted the beast gratefully. He was near exhaustion. “Where is everyone?”

“Here and there. There and here. Where are you going?” Sam turned his pony and rode alongside him.

“I am going to the castle. I need to find Lucio and Konrad. They are lost in the caves along with de Bleu and Simon and Louis,” Mark Andrew told him. He was almost too tired to explain himself.

“Simon of Grenoble and Louis Champlain have returned to the overworld along with the golden boy, son of the golden goddess, Oshun. You would do well not to return to your castle, King Adar. Unwise. Most disturbing. Upsetting. Displeasing. Distressing.”

“John is at my castle?!” Mark Andrew was flabbergasted.

“Oh, yes. He is doing a wonderful job,” Sam nodded. “He is almost as great a sorcerer as you are, King Adar. And he is very wise. Knowledgeable. Intelligent. Benevolent. Strong. Brave. True.”

“I know oll thot,” Mark Andrew shook his head. “But I need to go to my lab and search the scrying dish for Lucio and Konrad.”

“They have been taken by the golden goddess. They are in the Abyss. You cannot help them.”

“I have to try. It’s my fault that they are there. I underestimated the situation again.”

“You came to observe the dragon. The serpent. The scarlet beast.”

“Yes. I wanted to see how many heads she has now.”

“She has four heads now, King Adar. Prince John will not allow her to emerge from the Abyss into the land. He has asked me not to allow anyone to visit the castle.”

“It is my castle, Sam,” Mark Andrew reminded him as he reined in his temper. “And I am the King, am I not?!” Mark asked and then spun in the saddle to face the elf. “Did ye say thot she ’as four ’eads?!”

“Yes, four, two and two, a well balanced number, your Grace,” Sam nodded. “And she is quite colorful now. Not all red and scarlet and crimson as she was before, but red, white and yellow! She has a yellow head and a white head that she has gained since last I saw her, King Adar. She has gained great power now! Before, she was
